Eighteen years ago today, I received the most beautiful belated birthday gift ever - I became a big sister. From the first time I laid eyes on her and held her in my arms, rocking, squeezing, slobbering all over her {& ultimately sending her to her first hospital visit}, I was beyond amazed and in love with this little sister who I would learn so much from & have so much fun with over the years.

Letting her ride my tricycle, but making sure she's aware it's still mine

We have laughed so hard together...and smiled until it hurt

Endless adventures awaited us

We loved having our own tea parties & picnics

Hours & hours of homeschooling together

Always together, the inseparable two-some

We've grown up a lot

...but we're still wild & crazy

...and we still love each other

We try to get together with the B. family every Tuesday or so, to learn, play & just catch up on that speeding phenomenon of LIFE {there really should be a limit on how quickly it's allowed to fly by}. Here are some candid shots from one of our get-togethers. Love you guys!

Alright, folks. So here's a smorgasbord of snippets into our blessed but busy December days {and no, I'm not going for the-most-random-sentence-of-alliteration award}.

We have all been relatively healthy, only one hospital visit {praise the Lord, Grandma Lorry is feeling better} and a few sniffles and raspy throats, just enough to remind us to take our vitamins, wash our hands, and be grateful for the health the Lord has blessed our home with thus far.

We had smiling faces and Play-dough fun...

...lots of it.

Our little "honey bunches" has really gotten into the groove of helping with laundry...

...and the (ahem) coveted chore of "Garbage Lady".

And this would be Dad after an evening of fun/school/Bible time with Johanna...who just so happens to have disappeared for the picture...or maybe he's been sleeping the whole time...hmmm.

The ladies in red and yellow had plenty of time to relax, sit back and...color.

I made some chicken potpie using the recipe from William-Sonoma, a gift from Grandma "D"s daughter Kathy.

Yes, I remembered! Below are the photos from our annual Christmas caroling and the fun and fellowship we enjoyed post-freezing--I mean, post-singing.

We had a bunch of wonderful families over and everyone brought such wonderful hors d'oeuvres and desserts...not to mention beautiful voices and loads of laughter. Enjoy!

As I was looking back to last year's caroling I discovered that not a single caroler was posted about and I {your ever-{in}consistent reporter}, happened to skip right over that memorable evening! Therefore, with that confessed {you may throw tomatoes at me later}, I'll post some of last year's fellowship party below {although I'm afraid the camera-woman was MIA during the caroling} as well as a link to *two* years ago, the year it all started. {whew! glad that's off my chest!}

Fellowship

We were so honored to have some wonderful families from church over for dinner and fellowship this past week.

First we had the T. family over, enjoying such sweet conversations with their girls, Joanna and Rebecca, who happen to be Vanessa and my ages (20 & 17, respectively) and Mr. T. and Mrs. T. were so much fun as well, Johanna loved playing balloon toss with them *wink*!

We recently had our annual family pictures taken...and this year we got all fancy and had a professional photographer shoot us {with the camera of course}. We certainly had a blast and can't wait to share some with you all here. But as we await the well-done, perfectly-lit, charmingly-posed {and of course greatly edited :)} portraits, I will here share the "after-our-cheeks-couldn't-smile-any-longer-and-tummys-started-to-growl", quite unprofessional and non-posed, though lovely in every way simply because of the sweet ones smiling in them. Kevin and Ly, with their adorable 2 month old little man, David Minh Hai graciously stopped by on Thanksgiving so we could "ooh" and "aah" over how big the little man has become.

Our missionary friends from Moldova and Ukraine were in the U.S. for a while and we were blessed to have them in our home for an evening of sweet fellowship.

Nick (in the above photo) with his wife Uliana and their two children, as well as Andriy (photo above this one) serve with SportQuest.

It was so good having the both of you! We missed Uliana and the kids, but enjoyed seeing you again, Nick, and getting to know you, Andriy!

We love having the B. family over and try to have them over on a weekly basis. Johanna definitely gets her baby-time in with not-so-small-anymore Gabriel.

This past Friday our friend from church, Mr. Dennis, came over for dinner and lots of great, lively conversation! Here, Johanna, the "hostess-with-the-mostess" is sharing her blueberry soup with Mr. Dennis...although he's really eating some apple crisp a la mode.

Ah, yes...when Dad asked Mr. Dennis if there was anything he didn't like to eat, he said as long as there's no chocolate-covered bugs...we couldn't help it...a chocolate-covered cicada was on the dessert menu for the evening :)

October 9th was Mom's 48th birthday and we used the occasion for a good long celebration week, per usual. First we went to see the powerful new film by Sherwood Pictures, Courageous...and we can't recommend it enough it's that awesome! We then headed out to Logan's Roadhouse and finished *that* day at a debate between one of the professors at Dad's school and another on 'Can We Trust the Text of the New Testament'.
We then sent Mom and Dad to the Hyatt and made her birthday meal of steak, acorn squash, Swiss cheese bread and potato skins, followed *very* shortly by that most marvelous creation: heath bar cake!

An excellent wife, who can find? For her worth is far above jewels. The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain. ~Proverbs 31:10&11

The last weekend of August our parents surprised us with dinner at Texas de Brazil and an amazing symphony orchestra, calling it Faithful Daughters Appreciation Day {remember last year's?}. We forgot the camera for the orchestra so you'll just have to believe me... it was awesome! Oh, fun story: last time Vanessa and I enjoyed an orchestral event, she and my great-uncle fell asleep, I ended up with a large knot in my hair, and cousin Johnny and everyone else tried hard to quiet their chuckles. Let's just say it didn't go so well {and by the way, that was eleven years ago... just in case there were any eyebrow raises} ☺.

Our good friends from Pakistan came over for a lovely visit. Remember Ms. Farida and Simon from our New Year's party 2010? In this first picture is her youngest brother Himaya, son Simon, and other brother Akbar. In the next is Ms. Farida and her mother Mrs. D, as well as friend, Irma. I'm so sad Mr. D didn't get in the picture!

Oh dear, oh dear {or maybe the repetitive line of the White Rabbit -- I'm late! I'm late! -- would better explain my predicament}! Time has been sailing by these days, dragging me along in its wake rather more than allowing me to take my stand at the wheel...or at least somewhere on deck! But wherever I've been on this ship of life, there's one thing that's for sure -- I've been busy -- we've all been busy; however, since I'm the one who needs to carry the blame here for being responsible for our little nook of the blogosphere, do allow me to explain where I've been. Actually, only one word is needed for explanation's sake: SCHOOL! Yes, that's right, this past month I've been making my way through an American Literature lesson. That's it -- and it's enough, right?

Okay, well pictures are here and in subsequent posts for your enjoyment. And if you find I've fallen off the face of the earth again, please understand I'm probably being bombarded by another subject of mass destruction {ie. Government} and will come out of hiding only when it's been safely conquered. Or even better, perhaps I'll volunteer one of the family to update you patient folks in my absence ....{scheming ☺}....

Well folks, the fateful day has come and gone, a new year has been conquered and completed. Dad has officially reached the big 50! As has been made the birthday tradition for him, a six layer German Sweet Chocolate Cake was whipped up, stacked and doused with frosting. Oh, and of course we dutifully ate our share of the creation, no worries there! Happy birthday, Daddy-O! We are so very pleased to have celebrated with you in the accomplishment of Half a Century Ol-- er, Young!

This Independence Day we continued the tradition of celebrating with our good friends, the B. family! It's always so exciting having six additional littles to entertain us, and of course, Johanna was most thrilled to have her sweet friends over. The Grandmas "ood" and "ahhd" over ~~not so~~ little Gabriel and the other kiddos.

This past Monday we packed up and headed out to good ol' Outback Steakhouse. Other than the 100 degree weather which was attempting to melt those of us made of sugar, we all had a real relaxing time out together, getting to enjoy being waited on (please, let's not mention that Mondays are my cooking days...cough☺).

From Father's Day

Us girls are so thankful for the gift God has blessed us in our Dad. What wonderful memories he has blessed us with and such a godly heritage he is paving for us and our children to come. We were able to take him out the day before the "official" father's day to spend three-on-one time with him. Our day was filled with the yumminess of Pappadeaux and fun at Cabela's. On father's day we enjoyed a feast of steak, crab-stuffed mushrooms, hot rolls, and salad...not to mention chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream cake! We love you, Dad!

Keeping Cool

My! This summer has been quite the heated oven! Or, the first part of summer, that is. Goodness, we're not even into July, much less {dun-dun-dun-dunnn}...August! Praise the Lord for air conditioning {and for allowing it to work!}. We hope you all are staying cool indoors, or at least are taking some time out to enjoy a pool, or lake, or ocean {whichever's nearby!}. Below are just a few of the many memories we've made this past month. Enjoy!

Ah! Here we are at last! A boatload of memories are finally here for your enjoyment. Life has been good and busy. The grandmas have all been keeping relatively on the healthy side of things. We are always enjoying their wonderful host of family members and friends who come (and call) so faithfully. The Lord has truly been good to us in giving our family these sweet, lifelong relationships. On the school-front (har!har!)lots of grueling work going around here, what with Johanna's exciting kindergartenen studies, Vanessa wrapping up her final year of highschool (coming soon...2012 graduate!), and little ol' me working my way through two CLEP courses (yes, two...could I really truly be multitasking here?! alright now, quit acting so shocked ☺).

This post is on our lovely Mother's Day{s} which - of course - I'm terribly late on. We set our living room up pretty much the same as in '09, but I only have one picture to share from that day:

But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep. For since by a man came death, by a man also came the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive. But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, after that those who are Christ’s at His coming, then comes the end, when He hands over the kingdom to the God and Father, when He has abolished all rule and all authority and power. For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet. The last enemy that will be abolished is death. For HE HAS PUT ALL THINGS IN SUBJECTION UNDER HIS FEET. But when He says, “All things are put in subjection,” it is evident that He is excepted who put all things in subjection to Him. When all things are subjected to Him, then the Son Himself also will be subjected to the One who subjected all things to Him, so that God may be all in all.

We are rejoicing in the greatness of THE SACRIFICE of the LORD and His LOVE for the WORLD, so that we might have THE HOPE of HIS SALVATION!

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.

For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.

He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
